Which material should I choose for scaffold towers?
11/03/2016
Scaffold towers are a staple for a huge number of tradespeople and jobs, but finding exactly the right product can sometimes be a challenge. Scaffold and mobile towers are available in all sorts of materials – including aluminium and fibreglass, which tend to be the most popular amongst trade and industry professionals. With so many options, how do you know which material and product to choose, and which option would be best suited to a specific job? That’s exactly what we’ll be discovering in today’s blog…
Why choose aluminium towers?
Aluminium towers have been perhaps the most popular choice over the past few years – and you’ll find many online at Browns Ladders. The light, affordable and durable build meets the needs of professionals while offering an easily transportable option.
Another huge benefit of aluminium is that it’s treated to resist corrosion and rust. This not only improves the longevity and safety of your product, it’s also essential for those professionals that work outdoors.
The only real downside to aluminium is that it is a highly conductive material. This means it’s not an option for those that those that work with electricity or near power sources.
Aluminium is also not as strong as other materials, such as steel, meaning it may be more susceptible to damage, but overall aluminium does offer more benefits. If cost is an issue, it may be best to opt for steel as it’s a cheaper option.
What about Fibreglass?
The main appeal of fibreglass is its non-conductive properties. It’s the ideal choice for those working with power lines and sources, lighting or grids. With fibreglass, electrical safety is ensured, so it really is the only product to consider in these circumstances.
The main drawback of fibreglass is its weight. The material is much heavier and denser than aluminium. This means fibreglass towers can be more difficult to set up, carry, take down and transport – however, intelligent design has made all of these issues workable.
Fibreglass also comes with a more expensive price tag, but that shouldn’t even be a consideration when it comes to safety. If you need a non-conductive ladder, fibreglass really is the only option you should consider.
