Common DIY tasks for summer
10/06/2016
With the arrival of summer, many of us begin to embark on those much-needed domestic maintenance tasks. From cleaning out the guttering to sorting out the garden, there’s plenty to do when it comes to DIY home maintenance. Working safely is just as important than getting the job done. With this in mind, we’re taking a look at some of the most common DIY tasks and sharing how to complete them safely this summer.
A fresh lick of paint
Summer is a great time for decorating. With the temperatures a little warmer and the risk of rain having decreased, you can leave windows and doors open to allow fresh air in – allowing any paintwork to dry much quicker.
With all internal DIY, it’s important to choose the right access equipment. While it’s easy enough to grab whatever ladder you may have tucked away in the garage, it’s worth assessing the requirements of each job and investing in the right ladder. You’ll want to make sure your stepladder is of a suitable height and in good condition, with no noticeable damage.

Cleaning out the guttering
Clearing the gutter can be one of those jobs we tend to put off – but it’s essential if you want to prevent water damage to your roof and the walls of your house.
Selecting the right ladder is key to staying safe. If you live in a bungalow, a stepladder may be adequate, but in any house two storeys or higher, you’ll want an aluminium extension ladder. Don’t forget to get all your measurements before committing to a product.

Washing those windows
Now that summer’s here, it’s time to let some light in and clean your windows! With dirt, dust, and grime having gathered over the winter months, that first clean of spring and summer can always seem like quite a chore.
If you’re not using a pole system to clean your windows, it’s worth investing in a proper window cleaning A-frame ladder fit for purpose.

Solving storage problems
The spring and summer months are ideal for clearing out your home. Get rid of all that rubbish that has built up over the year and spruce things up a little so that everything looks fresh.
When tackling storage problems and building new types of storage, shelving and cupboards, you may need some sort of access equipment to prevent overreaching. Whether you need a little boost or something that offers a metre of so of height, we’ve got the perfect product for you.

Sprucing up the garden
Working outside in the garden has just as many dangers, if not more, than working inside your property. Each year, thousands of people are injured while gardening – many of these injuries being a result of a fall.
Investing in the proper access solutions is key if you want to stay safe while gardening. You’ll want to make sure your product is fit for purpose and sat on firm, solid, level ground. It’s also worth choosing a product from our Garden Ladders range.
